TODDLER/ TWOS CURRICULUM

Busy, busy, busy! That is the only way to explain a toddler. Toddlers are ready to experience a whole new world through exploration. They are striving for independence, social development, and language skills. Dixon Academy encourages this growth through a variety of hands-on developmentally appropriate activities.

Toddlers’ imagination and motivation often exceed their competence, and they are often frustrated with being in this in between stage of life. Our curriculum and learning centers are based on the Creative Curriculum for Infants, Toddlers, and Twos. These learning centers emphasize the creation of developmentally appropriate activities which encompass the skills and experiences needed for optimum development and personal success. All children receive a flexible schedule that includes large and small group activities, indoor and outdoor activities, sensory activities, and free play time. At this stage, literacy and language become a major emphasis.

Teachers engage the children in various learning experiences, both individually and as a group. They work with their children to build vocabulary by encouraging them to name pictures and recall stories. Our teachers include music and movement into the daily schedule encouraging children to participate and experience sounds from the world around them. Finger-play and simple songs are important ways for children to learn new vocabulary and pronunciation skills. Staff and parents communicate consistently and daily through ProCare Connect. Teachers share photos, children’s artwork, meals, daily activities, and more.
